Waking up begins with saying am and now. That which has awoken then lies for a while staring up at the ceiling and down into itself until it has recognised I, and therefore deduced I am, I am now. Here comes next, and is at least negatively reassuring; because here, this morning, is where it had expected to find itself; what’s called at home. But now isn’t simply now. Now is also a cold reminder, one whole day later than yesterday, one year later than last year. Every now is labelled with its date, rendering all past nows obsolete, until - sooner or later - perhaps - no, not perhaps - quite certainly: It will come.

"Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won’t either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself you tasted as many as you could."

my children and their children have been my closest thought, but from the first days of dawning individuality, i have longed unceasingly to make pictures of people…to make likenesses that are biographies, to bring out in each photograph the essential personality.

Today’s Reason I Love the Internet: Advanced Style
“I am tired of the cult of youth. The cultural rejection of old age, the stigmatization of wrinkles, grey hair, of bodies furrowed by the years. I am fascinated by Diana Vreeland, Georgia O’Keeffe and Louise Bourgeois, women who have let time embrace them without ever cheating. Society today condemns this, me, I celebrate it.” - Tom Ford
A street style blog for the silver-haired set. So much inspiration! I love these amazing women (and a few colorful men). Here lies hard proof that style and fun don’t have an expiration date. I also love the advice these advanced fashionistas give. Among the best: keep dancing, anything black needs a lot of bling, and always dress for yourself! I am inspired to be better at all of these things, and a little less fearless.

I’ve vowed that if I grow old, I will wear red lipstick every day, and grow my hair out and wear it in german braids. Tom Ford is an absolute god of a man; his utter understanding of ‘style’ both by sight and every other sense of the word is effortless, he embodies the term.
